Car Rental Terms & Conditions

Reservations: The vehicle shown on the website and in your reservation confirmation is indicative of the category, make and model and may be replaced with another vehicle similar to the one you booked.

In the event of damage or accident, we provide you with another car similar to the one you have rented (unless the damage or accident is due to negligence or use of the vehicle contrary to the applicable legislation, road traffic code or the terms of the rental contract).

Driver: Minimum acceptable age is 22 years for all categories up to category E. The driver must hold a driving license for at least 1 year.

Only the drivers listed on the rental contract are allowed to drive the car.

Additional guides

Additional drivers can be added to the rental agreement. Candia Rents allows the 1st extra driver with an extra charge 8€/day. In case of more drivers, according to the insurance companies policy, as with your own vehicle, insuring more drivers has an extra cost, so there will be an extra driver charge after consultation.

Driver’s license: A valid license issued at least 1 year ago is required. Citizens of non-EU countries are required to have an international diploma along with which the diploma issued in their country of residence must also be presented.

Payment method: In order to complete the reservation, a pre-payment or full payment of the reservation is required. The rental is prepaid and paid in any case upon delivery of the car to the renter.

Candia Rents accepts all credit cards (eg VISA / MASTERCARD), Woopayments, PayPal, VivaWallet.

 

(* ) VISA, MasterCard are accepted.
(**) Electronic cards such as those that say “electronic use only” are not accepted.

 

Payment through an interbank system is accepted through our website and by choosing the payment method SEPA or Direct Bank Deposit.

 

Summons – Fines: Summons and fines from administrative violations or other violations arising during the lease are charged to the tenant as well as a one-time 30 euro for file costs.

Charges

The basic charge concerns a period of one day (a period of 24 hours from the moment you receive the car) and includes:

  • Unlimited kilometers
  • 24 hour roadside assistance
  • Third Party Liability Waiver (C.D.W)
  • Taxes and fees

All our charges include VAT

 

Cancellations

Cancellation of the reservation must be made at least seventy-two (72) hours before the scheduled start of the rental of the vehicle according to a reservation made on this reservation engine. If you wish to cancel a booking, the only acceptable method is via email.

In the event of a cancellation received by Candia Rents within the above time limit before the scheduled start of the vehicle rental, according to a reservation made on this booking engine, the full amount is refunded.

In any other case, the amount is non-refundable.

Changes to the reservation

You can change your reservation by email at least 48 hours before his/her scheduled pick-up to ensure availability for the place and time of the reservation.

Changes upon receipt of the vehicle

If you wish to change your booking when you pick it up, for example change its return date, we will try to accommodate you, subject to availability, and a different fee will apply depending on the length of the hire.

Deliveries – Collections outside opening hours:

Deliveries and collections are made upon request.

a) Deliveries – pick-ups within the company’s opening hours to hotels or other places in the center of Heraklion are provided by Candia Rents free of charge.

 

b) Heraklion Airport/ Port/ In Heraklion Town: For the delivery or collection of the car within the company’s operating hours, the charge is free.

For the delivery or collection of the car outside the company’s opening hours, the fee is 20 euros.

 

c) Hersonissos(entrance or exit): For the delivery or collection of the car within the company’s opening hours, the charge is 15 euros.

For the delivery or collection of the car outside the company’s opening hours, the fee is 20 euros.

 

d) Malia:For the delivery or collection of the car within the company’s opening hours, the fee is 15 euros.

For the delivery or collection of the car outside the company’s opening hours, the fee is 20 euros.

 

e) Agios Nikolaos / Elounda:For the delivery or collection of the car within the company’s opening hours, the fee is 30 euros.

For the delivery or collection of the car outside the company’s opening hours, there will beextra charges.

 

f) Rethymno: For the delivery or collection of the car within the company’s opening hours, the fee is 30 euros.

For the delivery or collection of the car outside the company’s opening hours, there will beextra charges.

 

g) Chania: For the delivery or collection of the car within the company’s opening hours, the fee is 50 euros.

For the delivery or collection of the car outside the company’s opening hours, there will beextra charges.

 

Please note that for deliveries to a port or airport it is necessary that you have notified us of the flight number and arrival time for the airport, and for the port the name of the ship, the port it arrives at and where it comes from.

DELIVERIES – PICKUPS outside the center of Heraklion.

Deliveries – pickups outside the center of Heraklion are charged according to the region and the price list of the company, with a minimum charge of 15 euros and a maximum of 60 depending on the kilometer distance.

Kilometers: The rental covers unlimited kilometers from the first day of rental, in any case.

RENTAL THAT WAS NOT MADE.

The vehicle will be reserved and available for you. In the event that you have not collected one hour after the scheduled collection time, or in the event that the collection is scheduled at the airport one hour after the scheduled arrival of your flight (only if you have notified us of the flight number), Candia Rents retains the right to mark the reservation as “NO SHOW” and reserves no obligation to keep the vehicle reserved or to refund any amount you may have prepaid.

CAR RETURN

The rental vehicle must be returned during Candia Rents office hours. If you return the vehicle outside of office hours, you must comply with the Candia Rents manager’s instructions regarding returns outside of office hours, and the vehicle remains under your sole responsibility until Candia Rents offices are open . In the event that you cannot meet the instructions, the vehicle remains in our full responsibility until Candia Rents reaches it.

CAR RETURN EARLY

Remember that there is no refund if you return the car for any reason before the date and time stated in the rental agreement.

DELAYED RETURN

The rental prices of the vehicles per day refer to a duration of 24 hours starting from the beginning of the rental. Candia Rents allows the return of the car one and a half (1 ½) hours after the end of the pre-agreed rental period, without extra charge. If the car is returned after this time, you will be charged an extra day.

FUEL POLICY:

The vehicle is returned on the agreed day and time and to the place indicated in the rental agreement with a quantity of fuel equal to the amount it had at the time of receipt of the vehicle by you, which is indicated in your rental agreement and in any case is not less than 1/4. In the event that you return the vehicle with more fuel, Candia Rents will not refund the monetary difference. If the vehicle is returned with less fuel than it was delivered to you, you will have to pay the difference.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES may include:

  • Personal Insurance (PAI)
  • Fuel charge
  • Full insurance
  • New driver
  • Extra guide
  • Child or infant seat
  • GPS navigator
  • Mixed Insurance
  • Delayed return
  • Special car cleaning
  • Tolls or call charges that may involve traffic violations and/or illegal parking of the vehicle during the rental period.

 

Child seat: The fee for a child seat is set at 5 euros/day. In case of loss or damage, the fee is 150 euros.

Child seat (booster): The fee for a child seat (booster) is set at 5 euros/day. In case of loss or damage, the fee is 100 euros.

 

ACCIDENT

In the event of an accident, the lessee must immediately inform the company as well as the police and provide the police incident report on the return.

He is obliged to immediately call both the traffic police and the accident care service provided by the insurance coverage of the vehicle and wait as long as necessary for them to arrive at the scene of the accident. In the event that the customer for any reason leaves the scene of the accident before recording the incident, taking photos, etc. by exhibiting non-contractual behavior in this way, his insurance coverage automatically ceases to be valid and he is obliged to fully compensate Candia Rents for any damage caused both to the company’s vehicle and to any third parties.

In case of an accident due to the fault of our customer, an additional €30 is charged for handling the accident file.

 

INSURANCE & EXTENSIONS

GENERALLY

The vehicles are insured:

Against third parties for material damage to third parties excluding a) the driver and their passengers b) the Candia Rents vehicle

 

CDW – Exemption from payment of damage caused: The renter is fully exempted from responsibility for any damage to the car, above the limit of the exemption plus VAT, (500 – 1500 euros) depending on the category of the car as stated in the rental contract , provided he accepts and signs the relevant terms of the company’s contract.

Necessary condition, driving in accordance with the Road Traffic Code and compliance with all the terms of the rental agreement. Damage to tires, damage to the underside of the car, as well as theft of personal belongings are not covered by any insurance.

 

You can request an extension of the vehicle insurance:

Personal accident (PAI): covers the drivers of the vehicle stated in the rental agreement.

PAI fee: 2 euros/day

Theft Insurance (TP): Covers you for loss or damage to the Candia Rents vehicle, its parts or accessories, due to theft or attempted theft or vandalism.

TP charge: 4 euros/day

Full insurance: The renter is fully released from responsibility for any damage to the car.

Full insurance charge: 8€/day

Driving in accordance with the Road Traffic Code and complying with all the terms of the rental agreement is a necessary condition for the coverage of all the above insurances. Damage to tires,  damage to the bottom of the car, and theft of personal items are not covered by any insurance.

The main condition for the above is the absence of proof of negligence, such as: driving on unapproved roads or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, contaminated fuel, loss of keys, damage to extra equipment such as GPS, child seat or similar.

In the event that a warning light on the car’s dial lights up, contact us immediately to give the correct instructions.

 

ROAD ASSISTANCE:

Candia Rents cars are covered 24 hours by roadside assistance. Contact details are given to you when you pick up the car.

 

In case of mechanical breakdown or accident for example (mechanical breakdown, natural disaster, vandalism or theft), you should in any case contact our company offices as soon as possible. We will assess the situation and if necessary your vehicle will either be repaired by an engineer of our company or transported to the nearest station from where you are. In the event that it is not possible to repair the vehicle immediately, we will replace the vehicle for you with another one.

 

Long Term Leases: Leases are renewed every 30 days.
